Cindi Bigelow, president of Bigelow Tea, recently met with case managers Veronica Cruz and Stephanie Milford of the Janus Center for Youth in Crisis to find out how money raised by the annual Bigelow Tea Community Challenge has supported youth in families in crisis in the greater Bridgeport area.

Bigelow, a supporter of the Janus Center for many years, learned about the center’s diversion services for youth who are homeless, at risk of becoming homeless or at risk of entering into the juvenile justice system or the Department of Children and Families.

The program serves children facing serious family, social and school problems that can result in running away. It also serves children facing exposure to dangers like substance abuse, sexual exploitation and violence.

The center additionally provides positive youth development activities through its summer enrichment program, which is tailored to engage at-risk city youth by providing them with a mixture of fun, educational and skill-building activities.

The center is a program of the Council of Churches of Greater Bridgeport.
