Wayne Mones named soccer coach at Notre Dame

Notre Dame of Fairfield has hired  Wayne Mones as its new head girls soccer coach.
Mones recently retired from the Norwalk school district, where for the last 10 years he was the Athletic Director/School Counselor at Norwalk High School.
Mones was previously the head coach at Central Catholic High School for 10 years and Western Connecticut State University for 17 seasons.
Along with coaching, Mones will be on the faculty at Notre Dame as a full time school counselor. Mones is the President and Director of Coaching for the Yankee United futbol club for young women.
Father Bill Sangiovanni said, “As President of Notre Dame, I am very pleased that Mr.  Mones will be joining the ND faculty as a school counselor as well the position of head coach of our girls soccer team.
“I am confident that with his experience and knowledge he will provide the proper leadership as we move forward.”
Chris Cipriano, school principal, said, “I am very happy to welcome Mr. Mones to the ND family. His extensive background in school counseling, coupled with his talents as a successful soccer coach, will make an excellent addition to the Notre Dame Fairfield community and undoubtedly be very beneficial for our students.”
ND Athletic Director Rob Bleggi said, “I am very excited to welcome Coach Mones to Notre Dame as a coach and faculty member.  To have a head coach in the building is a great asset for the school.
“His high school experience as a school counselor and his knowledge and understanding of the game of soccer is undeniable.  I believe that Coach Mones can elevate our girls soccer program to the next level.”
Mones said, “I feel very fortunate to become part of the Notre Dame High School family as a faculty member and coach.
“After 36 years as a public school counselor I look forward toward the new challenges of working in a Catholic High School environment.
“I hope that my extensive high school experience in college counseling, my personal counseling skills and strong back ground in working with highly diverse multi-cultural students will help add to the already strong reputation of the ND Guidance Department.
“In addition to my guidance responsibilities, I am extremely happy to have the opportunity to coach the girls soccer program at Notre Dame.
“Over the course of my coaching career at both the high school and college level, I have been able to provide  leadership and the necessary building blocks to help create a winning program.
“With the commitment of our student athletes, as well as the support of our parents, teachers, administrators and ND community, I am confident our team will be successful.”
