Local activist Tara Cook-Littman unanimously secured the Democratic nomination for the 134th District of the state House of Representatives in a convention at Catch a Healthy Habit, a local health food store.

“I am humbled and thrilled at the outpouring of support I have felt since declaring my intention to run to represent Fairfield and Trumbull,” Cook-Littman said. “Grassroots activism is key to making a difference in Hartford.  I understand the power of our collective voice. We need to be heard on the issues that matter to the people of this district.”

State Sen. Anthony Musto nominated Cook-Littman. The nomination was seconded by Heather Dean, former candidate for the seat and the chairperson of the Fairfield Democratic Town Committee.

“This campaign is about people, and I cannot do it alone,” Cook-Littman said. “I’m going to knock on doors from now until November, but I need your help, too.”

Cook-Littman is a former New York City prosecutor and nationally known food system advocate. In 2013, she led the effort in Connecticut to require the labeling of genetically modified foods. The bill’s passage marked the first time a state had passed such a law.

“People know that I’ve been active on issues of food & nutrition, environmental protection and education, but this campaign is about much more,” Cook-Littman said. “I am going door to door to hear what matters to the people of this district and how these issues affect their lives.  We need to be working on solutions to make people’s lives better.”

The convention was chaired by Democratic State Central Party chairwoman Nancy DiNardo.
