UPDATE: Train station reopened; delays still up to an hour

UPDATE 8:33 a.m. — The Fairfield train station has reopened, but delays are still expected.

8:18 a.m. — A police officer just told people on the Post Road that the area should be opening up soon.

8:07 a.m. — The bomb technician picked something up from the tracks, and carried it over to other technicians, who are examining it.

8:02 a.m. — A bomb technician in full gear is walking across the tracks on the New York bound side of the station.

Delays are now reportedly 1-2 hours for Metro-North following a report of a suspicious package at the Fairfield train station.

Original story — Trains are not running through Fairfield after a suspicious package was found at the downtown Fairfield train station Friday morning. The bomb squad is on scene.

The station is blocked off.

Traffic southbound on Unquowa Road is being rerouted through Tomlinson Middle School to Round Hill Road. The school is closed today.

Crowds of people are around the area, waiting on benches and stairs, as they are still unsure if trains will be running through town today.
