Locals impress in postseason competition

Sweeping singles play, the top-seeded Fairfield Ludlowe girls tennis team defeated third-seeded Darien High, 4-3, to win the Class L state championship at Wilton High on June 6.
Lindsey Evans, Cami Adajian, Daria Efimov and Kyra Adajian topped the Blue Wave (18-2) in singles, as Ludlowe finished its season at 24-1.
The Falcons defeated fourth-seeded Amity of Woodbridge, 4-3, on June 4.
Evans won at No. 1 singles in the Amity match, 6-3, 6-0, and Cami Adajian took No. 2 singles 7-5, 7-6.
The Spartans (17-3) took third singles, 7-6, 6-2, as Efimov lost her first match of the season, before Kyra Adajian won at No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-0.
In doubles play, Ludlowe’s No. 3 tandem of Lexi Brown and Julia Cheung won out 6-2, 6-2.
Christian Alvarado from Fairfield Prep won the mile run in 4:06.88 at the New Balance Nationals in Greensboro (N.C.) on Sunday, June 15.
Alvarado, a senior, was the 1600 meter (4:12.38) and the 3200 meter (9:11.54) champion at the State Open Championships in Middletown on June 9.
Fairfield Ludlowe’s Joshua Archer took 12th in the javelin with a throw of 155-08.
Fairfield Warde’s Aidan Fiol was 15th in the 3200 with a time of 9:35.78.
Prep’s Vincent D’Amore was 18th in the javelin (146-00).
State Open girls
Cate Allen from Fairfield Warde took third in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:49.33, nearly five seconds better than her seed time.
Emma Koether from Fairfield Ludlowe was fourth in the 400 meter dash.
Koether, Kate O’Shea, Sullie Desmond and Rachel Hurst came home sixth in the 4×400 relay in 4:03.57.
Warde’s Rachel Maltz was 15th in the javelin with a throw of 103-08.
Elizabeth Buckley, O’Shea, Ali Johnson and Hurst were 18th for Ludlowe in the 4×100 relay with a time of 51.40.
Ludlowe’s Brianna Auray was 14th in the 800 meter run (2:24.5).
Ludlowe’s Stephanie Sheehan was 26th in the 300 meter hurdles (51.53).
Warde girls golf
Fairfield Warde placed fifth at the FCIAC Championships at Fairchild Wheeler Golf Club on June 4.
Greenwich High (342) won the team title, followed by Staples of Westport (345), Danbury (349) and Ridgefield (389).
Sarah Vimini’s round of 92 (46-46) was best for the Mustangs (404) on the par 73 course.
Bailey Cooke shot a 101 (47-54), Nadia Caputo a 105 (51-54), Erica de la Garrigue a 106 (52-54) and Kathleena Inchoco a 115 (60-55).
Warde boys lacrosse
Fairfield Warde fell to Ridgefield High, 9-4, in the Class L quarterfinal round on June 7.
Kyle Scheetz scored two goals for coach Tom Cunningham’s 11th-seeded Mustangs (12-6).
Kevin Robinson and Mike Adams added goals and Jake Fuss had an assist.
Jason Nerreau had 10 saves, as the third-seeded Tigers improved to 15-3.
Prep lacrosse
Fairfield Prep saw its run toward a third straight Class L state title ended by host Greenwich High, as the second-seeded Cardinals defeated the Jesuits, 9-8, in the Class L quarterfinals on June 7.
Greenwich went on to defeat Staples of Westport for the title. Prep, the 10th seed, finished at 14-6.
The game was tied at 2 after one period and then Greenwich scored three straight goals to take a 5-2 lead into the half. It was 9-3 after three quarters. Teddy Long had three goals and Austin Sims two goals for the Jesuits.
Blake Smith had a goal and an assist. Pat Lambert and Stephen Walsh had goals and Chris Brown had two assists.
John O’Connor had 17 saves to 10 for GHS’ Tommy Rogan.
