Defense helps Bigelow win in Junior Babe Ruth

Devon Young, threw out two stealing second and saved a run by making a great play at the plate in the fourth inning to protect the lead when Bigelow Tea defeated Fairfield Automatic Transmission, 7-3, in Fairfield Junior Babe Ruth League play the week of June 2-8.
Vincent Bartiromo started for Bigelow Tea and went three innings with a strikeout and no walks  Luke Finnegan pitched three frames with one strikeout no walks and a run. Stuart Martin went an inning with one strikeout and no walks.
Finnegan was 2-for-3 with a walk and a standup triple. Spencer Jones had two hits with a double. Bartiromo had four hits.

Tommy Kelly pitched the four final innings giving up only one run to earn the win. He also hit a double. Zach McKay, Jackson and Liam Holroyd had three hits apiece.

Zach Day struck out eight batters in  a complete game win. Ben Raggio hit a double and scored in the first inning.  Chris Nanai hit a double in the third that scored Ben Menkes and  Raggio. Dom Conte, and Mark Garcia also did well at the plate and scored in the fourth.
Michael Benton went 2 for 3, including a double which drove in Quin Koether.

Jack McCarthy started on the hill and went four innings; striking out four and walking two. Ryan Dean came in to close out the remaining two innings with two strikeouts and a walk.
For the offense, Vincent Bartiromo continued his hitting streak with a stand-up triple in the third to drive an RBI.
Dean in the fifth had a triple and two RBIs. Spencer Jones went 2-for-4 with a double. Luke Bennett also had two hits.

Vincent Bartiromo pitched four innings giving up three hits and Ryan Dean pitched the final two innings allowing only two hits for Fairfield.
In first inning action, Dean had a double down the right field line following Matthew Hochberg’s single through the middle moving him to third base before Danbury got the last out on a fine throw to the plate.
Defensively, it was a well-played game by both teams. Luke Finnigan, Spencer Jones, Bartiromo and Jason Hochberg where the only players to manage hits for the remainder of the game.
