Local filmmaker wins award at New York festival

Carrie Ferrante

Carrie Ferrante of Fairfield, a screenwriter/director, was awarded a “Catty” at the inaugural Catskill Mountains Film Festival on May 3.

A 2012 graduate of Long Island University at the C.W. Post campus, Ferrante was the winner of the College Narrative Feature category for Us & Them, which she wrote and directed.

The film explores the complex friendship of a fledgling high school teacher, played by Steve White, and his troubled female student, played by Elizabeth Spano.

This is the latest in a series of honors for Us & Them, which was also recognized at The Long Island Film Expo, The Silent River Film Festival, The Naperville Independent Film Festival, the Honolulu Film Awards, The Indiefest and the Maverick Film Awards.

Us & Them is the latest venture from The Majors, a production company founded by Ferrante and four college classmates from the film school at C.W. Post.

The Majors are compiling a resume, both as an independent filmmaking company and as production assistants for other artists.
