One person taken to hospital after bleacher collapse

Stands crumble under Fairfield Warde student section during state baseball game at Trumbull High

UPDATE: One person was transported to the hospital for evaluation following a bleacher collapse Friday during the state baseball tournament quarterfinal game between Fairfield Warde and Trumbull at Trumbull High School.

The Trumbull Volunteer Fire Company said Friday night that about 30 to 35 people were on the small grandstand when it collapsed. One person was transported to the hospital, another visited a doctor, and three people sustained minor injuries.

Trumbull EMS, Police, Trumbull Center Fire, Long Hill Fire and the Trumbull Fire Marshal responded to the scene. The collapse briefly halted the contest, won by Fairfield Warde 5-1.

A full investigation will be completed to determine the cause, according to an update from Trumbull Volunteer Fire Company.
