Hospital to offer free lectures in June

Bridgeport Hospital will sponsor a series of four community health lectures in June. All are free and open to the public. Advance registration is required. Call 888-357-2396.

• On Thursday, June 5, 7–9 p.m., psychologist Dr. Douglas Dufore, and psychiatrist Dr. Lei Zou, will headline “Understanding Autism” at the Trumbull Marriott, 180 Hawley Lane. They will discuss the diagnosis and treatment of children with autism, including medications and related conditions.

• On Wednesday, June 11, 1–3 p.m., at the Baldwin Center, 1000 West Broad St., Stratford, orthopedic surgeons Dr. David Bindelglass, and Dr. Joel Malin, orthopedic nurse Karen Essig and physical therapist Amy Mooney will discuss the causes of and range of treatments for hip and knee pain.

• On Wednesday, June 18, 7–9 p.m., at the Trumbull Marriott, Dr. Vivian Argento, medical director of the Bridgeport Hospital Center for Geriatrics, will team with a registered dietitian and physical therapist from the hospital to provide advice on “How to Live to 100.” They will discuss the science behind aging and the steps people can take to increase their chances of living longer.

• On Thursday, June 26, 7–9 p.m., also at the Trumbull Marriott, Dr. Dana Cavicke, medical director of the Center for Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine at Bridgeport Hospital, will discuss “Principles of Wound Care,” including the use of hyperbaric oxygen therapy, which the hospital provides in southern Connecticut’s only multi-person hyperbaric chamber.
