Junior Babe Ruth League games heating up

Dan Montanez pitched well for McGoldrick Fuel and went 3-for-4 at the plate in a 14-4 victory over Tallman Builders in Fairfield Junior Babe Ruth League play the week of May 19-25. Connor Bennett contributed a couple hits as well.

Fairfield County

Chris Nanai pitched all five innings for Tallman. Ben Menkes four times at the plate, had seven stolen bases and scored twice. Quin Koether had two hits, a walk, and scored three runs. Ben Raggio had a hit, two walks and scored twice.
Tallman 10,
Westport Wreckers 0
Dom Conte pitched three innings, followed by Chris Nanai for tw and Ben Menkes pitched the last inning to complete the shutout. Conte struck out three batters in his three innings of work. Menkes struck out two batters. Zach Day hit a double in the sixth to bring in Nanai and Conte for the last two runs of the game.

Strong pitching performances were turned in by Fairfield County Bank Insurance’s Jordan DeStefano, Eric Thompson and Ryan Dowd. Deep doubles were hit by Thompson and Kevin Oricoli, and a spectacular over the head catch was made by Sean Persson at second base.

Fairfield lost a heart-breaker in extra innings at the 1st annual Xtreme Babe Ruth Memorial Tournament held in Newtown.
Matt Hochberg pitched six shutout innings, giving up only three hits while going 3-for-4 from the plate. His batterymate, Billy Duffy helped pace the attack as he went 2-for-3. Fairfield mounted a rally in the sixth inning, but Ridgefield pulled off a triple play to kill the rally. Vincent Bartiromo pitched the last two innings of the game giving up only two hits.
New Fairfield Xtreme 13U 8,
Fairfield Xtreme 13U 4
Spencer Jones, Will Henry, Noah Kane, Vincent Bartiromo and Colin Sullivan each had hits in a losing effort. Will Henry pitched four solid innings and Paul Toner came in to pitch the last two innings. Billy Duffy played an outstanding game behind the plate, throwing out three runners trying to steal.

Tallman Builders 6
Dom Conte pitched the first four innings and Ben Menkes the last three. Mark Garcia hit a long shot to right field that bounced over the fence for a grounds-rule double. Chris Nanai was 2-for-2 with a walk and scored twice.
Newtown Xtreme 13U 9,
Fairfield Xteme 13U 1
Matt Hochberg went 2-for-3 and Billy Duffy had the lone RBI as Fairfield fell to Newtown in tournament play on May 25. Spencer Jones, Jason Hochberg and Devin Young contributed with one hit each. Colin Sullivan pitched the last three innings in relief of Paul Toner and Duffy giving up only one run and three hits.

McGoldrick Fuel 9
A seventh-inning five-run rally fell just short of victory for McGoldrick. Jackson Holroyd hit a solo home run over the center field fence. Connor Bennett had two hits, including a double, and Dan Fitzpatrick contributed a couple hits.

Liam Holroyd pitched three scoreless innings. Tommy Kelly and Connor Bennett had three hits each, including doubles. Chris Schreiner, Cole Maute, Dan Montanez and Jackson Holroyd had multiple-hit games as well.
