Ludlowe softball at home for FCIACs

The St. Joseph Cadets will be the No. 1 seed when the first pitch is thrown in the FCIAC softball tournament on Tuesday.

The final seedings and match-ups were set when the Ludlowe Falcons edged the New Canaan Rams, 6-4 in nine innings, Saturday afternoon in New Canaan’s Waveny Park. Unlike the playoff race for baseball, the eight tournament teams were decided earlier this week with only final seedings being contested on Friday and Saturday.

Hosting quarterfinal games will be the top four seeds: No. 1 St. Joseph (17-1 FCIAC), No. 2 Darien (16-2), No. 3 Greenwich (15-3) and No. 4 Ludlowe (14-4).

The rest of the field includes No. 5 Stamford and No. 6 Westhill (both 13-5 with Stamford winning the tiebreaker), No. 7 Trumbull (12-6) and No. 8 New Canaan.

FCIAC Quarterfinals, Tuesday, May 27, 4 p.m.

No. 8 New Canaan (11-7) at No. 1 St. Joseph (17-1)

No. 5 Stamford (13-5) at No. 4 Ludlowe (14-4)

No. 7 Trumbull (12-6) at No. 2 Darien (16-2)

No. 6 Westhill (13-5) at No. 3 Greenwich (15-3)

In the regular-season games between those teams, St. Joseph defeated New Canaan 16-2; Darien defeated Trumbull 8-1; Westhill defeated Greenwich 1-0; and Ludlowe and Stamford split two games, with Ludlowe winning the FCIAC game 6-5, and Stamford winning the non-conference game 4-0.

The semifinals and final will be held at Sacred Heart University, with the semis at 3 and 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 28, and the final at 4 p.m., Thursday, May 29.
