It’s official: Kim Fawcett is the choice of Democrats as their nominee for the 28th State Senate District in 2014. The 28th District includes Easton, Fairfield, Newtown and parts of Weston and Westport.

Delegates from the five towns gathered in Newtown’s Edmond Town Hall on May 19, for a convention to unanimously nominate Fawcett as the Democratic candidate. Fawcett was first elected as a State Representative for Fairfield’s 133rd District in 2006 and served four terms.

She recently announced her intention to run for the state senate seat, which will be left open with John McKinney not seeking another term.

Fawcett was nominated by Martha Aasen, former chair of the Westport Democratic Town Committee. Seconding the nomination were Catherine Albin, a Fairfield Board of Finance member, and Lisa Romano, a member of the Newtown Legislative Council.

Fawcett also pledged to continue working as an independent, results-oriented leader committed to fiscal responsibility, building genuine relationships and serving the needs of her constituents.
