St. Vincent College graduation set for May 23

Graduation is set for St. Vincent College on Friday, May 23, at 10 a.m.  The ceremony will be at the Arnold Bernhard Arts & Humanities Center, Mertens Theatre at the University of Bridgeport.

Robert Henkel, president and chief executive officer of Ascension Health, will be the keynote speaker for the 2014 commencement.

Former St. Vincent’s Health Services President and CEO Susan L. Davis will receive an honorary doctor of humane letters, and College Board Chairperson Marianne Laska will also be honored.

This year’s class of 160 graduates is the largest in St. Vincent’s College history. For the second year, the event includes baccalaureate graduates from both the bachelor of science in nursing (RN-BSN) program and the bachelor of science in radiologic sciences (BSRS) programs.

About Robert Henkel

Robert Henkel is the leader of Ascension Health, the nation’s largest Catholic and largest non-profit healthcare system.  Ascension Health includes St. Vincent’s Health Services, of which St. Vincent’s College is an affiliate. Henkel also serves as executive vice president of ascension, of which Ascension Health is a direct subsidiary.

Henkel, a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a member of the Healthcare Executives Network, currently serves as a board member of the Catholic Health Association, the United Way of Greater St. Louis, and the Coalition to Protect America’s Health Care. He is a University of Pittsburgh Legacy Laureate.

About Susan Davis

Susan L. Davis, president and CEO of Sacred Heart Health System in Pensacola, Fla., and former president and CEO of St. Vincent’s Health Services, will be awarded an honorary doctor of humane letters degree.  St. Vincent’s College is recognizing Davis’ work because of her many years of service to the St. Vincent’s Health Services and Ascension Health communities, her support for St. Vincent’s College as a member of its board of trustees, and her service to area civic organizations and all hospitals in the state as an advocate for patient and staff safety through the Connecticut Hospital Association.

About Marianne Laska

Marianne Laska will also be honored at the commencement. Laska is completing her ninth year on the college board of trustees and her fourth year as board chairperson.  After immigrating to the United States, Laska met a portion of her requirements for licensure as a nurse at St. Vincent’s College.  She retired from St. Vincent’s Medical Center after more than 20 years of service.  Since then she has devoted her time and talents to serving the greater Bridgeport community, most notably service to St. Vincent’s College, St. Vincent’s Parish Nurse Program and the Greater Bridgeport Symphony.
