CT Challenge, Bigelow Tea partner to help cancer survivors

In the latest chapter of the community outreach for which it has become known over the past 20 years, Fairfield-based Bigelow Tea has added the CT Challenge Center for Survivorship to the group of nonprofits it supports.

The CT Challenge is dedicated to helping cancer survivors in Connecticut and throughout the U.S. rebuild, improve and prolong their lives through mind-body health, exercise, nutrition and community-building support programs tailored to their unique needs. The CT Challenge opened the Center for Survivorship in 2012 for local cancer survivors and as an incubator for best practices in cancer survivorship care.

“In giving cancer survivors a path back to their lives and a bridge to long-term wellness by promoting healthy living, the CT Challenge aligns with many of our values as a company,” said Cindi Bigelow, Bigelow Tea president and chief executive officer.

“We are grateful to Cindi and Bigelow Tea for all of their support,” said Jeff Keith, CT Challenge president and co-founder. “To have a company of that stature in our corner is such a lift to our efforts to change the world for cancer survivors who used to have nowhere to turn after treatment was done, despite very serious and often life-threatening long-term effects of the protocols needed to save their lives in the first place.”

Bigelow has personally participated in several of the annual CT Challenge charity bike rides, a financial driver of the organization. Additionally, she appeared recently on behalf of the organization to introduce Olympic gold medalist Shannon Miller, the most decorated U.S. gymnast and a cancer survivor, who addressed a crowd of more than 300 at the Roger Ludlowe Middle School as part of the CT Challenge Speaker Series.

CT Challenge programs are supported primarily by corporate partners, grants, private donations and the CT Challenge annual bike ride, occurring this year on July 25 and 26.
