Brenna Martini plates winning run in 10th inning

Brenna Martini’s two-out double in the bottom of the 10th inning drove in Anna Rasmussen with the winning run to lift coach Shari Paci’s Fairfield Ludlowe softball team to a 6-5 victory over Trumbull High at Sturges Field on Saturday.
The Falcons improved to 5-1 overall and 4-0 in the FCIAC. Trumbull is 4-2, 3-1 FCIAC.
Trumbull turned a double play to empty the bases in the 10th, before Rasmussen had Ludlowe’s ninth hit with a single over Nicole Palmer’s head at second base.
Katie DeCarlo fell behind in the count 1-2, fouled off five pitches, and then worked Samantha Platz for a free pass.
Martini, who had been intentionally walked in two prior at bats with a base open and a runner at second, slugged the second pitch she saw to deep center to win the game.
