Toubab Krewe jams out at the Fairfield Theatre Company

Fairfield Theatre Company welcomes Asheville, North Carolina based instrumental powerhouse, Toubab Krewe to StageOne on Saturday April 26, at 7:30 p.m., 70 Sanford Street.

It takes only a few moments to realize that Toubab Krewe’s music cannot be put into any box, or classified in just one category. Audiences will come face-to-face with a truly original act that swirls together rock, African traditions, and jam sensibilities with other international folk strains that will take their ears on a trip around the world.

Formed in 2005, Toubab Krewe have honed their craft through relentless touring and a fierce dedication to carving out something they can truly call their own. The bounties of this hard work can be heard on their latest release, TK2. What Justin Perkins (Kora, Kamelngoni, guitar, percussion), Terrence Houston (drums), Drew Heller (guitar, piano, fiddle), David Pransky (bass, guitar), and Luke Quaranta (Djembe, Congas, percussion) have produced reflects their many miles and musical journeys by actively drawing inspiration from what they’ve experienced at venues and music festivals around the world; Bonnaroo, High Sierra, Rothbury and Wakarusa, and the legendary gathering Festival In The Desert in Mali.

Their globe-hopping propensity has made Toubab Krewe one of the most talked about emerging bands. Now they make their triumphant return back to FTC. Whether on their own or collaborating with luminaries like the Last Poets’ Umar Bin Hassan or Uncle Earl’s Rayna Gellert, Toubab Krewe have earned the attention and respect of a broad musical community. But what truly differentiates Toubab Krewe from other bands is the the inspiration they find in African rooted music, and the honor shown to the African originators they admire.
