Kevin Coyner will run for Fairfield state representative

Kevin Coyner has announced his candidacy as a Democrat for state representative for Fairfield in the Connecticut General Assembly 132nd District.

“I won’t be content to just ‘represent’ Fairfield,” Coyner said. “I want to actively build a better future for Fairfield and Connecticut. To me, this means having forward-looking ideas, actively working on these ideas and actually getting something done for Fairfield for a change.”

He believes in the notion that a strong economy is like a rising tide that lifts all boats.

“Our first focus must be to return to full economic growth,” Coyner said. “A strong economy with wage growth produces higher tax revenues, not higher tax rates; it allows us to address economic inequality without unduly burdening any particular segment of society.”

Coyner believes in the importance of stimulating job growth in 21st Century jobs: Precision manufacturing, healthcare, biomedical, green energy, exports, technology and tourism.

“We need new jobs that are more resilient to the boom and bust cycles that whipsaw our economy today,” Coyner said. “Our state, and our town of Fairfield specifically, needs to be seen as the preeminent place for new investment and growth.”

Taxes need to be fairer, state government must be run more efficiently, preventative healthcare needs more emphasis and incentives must be created to keep our college graduates here in Connecticut to help grow the local economy, Coyner said.

As state representative for Fairfield, Coyner will be focused on key issues to find forward-looking solutions to improve the quality of life in Fairfield and the state of Connecticut. He feels his strong and diverse background in business is what qualifies him to work on these issues.

Coyner holds an MBA in international business from George Washington University and a bachelor’s degree in economics from Lewis & Clark College. He was a bond and options trader for Morgan Stanley and Citibank for 14 years, stationed in New York and Tokyo.

Coyner has also worked in Washington, D.C., in the United States Senate, where he assisted in writing legislation. In addition, he was elected and served on an area Representative Town Meeting. He is committed to public service as a career firefighter and Retirement Board member for Greenwich.

Coyner has been a Connecticut resident for 25 years and a Fairfield resident for five. Coyner has two grown children and is married Natalia, a registered nurse at St. Vincent’s Medical Center and doctoral candidate at Fairfield University.

In addition to his work and service, Coyner has competed in 11 Ironman triathlons, including the World Championships in Hawaii, where he placed three times in the “Top 5” for his age group. He also enjoys skydiving and stand-up paddle boarding on Long Island Sound.
