Church suspends talks about Fairfield Woods cell tower

Church says it faces 'unfair burden'

Fairfield Grace United Methodist Church announced Wednesday, April 2, that it will suspend lease negotiations with a cell carrier company.

The church council, which is the decision making body of this local church, had originally voted to proceed with negotiations on March 30. At the meeting where the vote took place, the church council also charged the cell site task force, a smaller group within the church, to negotiate a possible lease.

“The task force has come to believe that an unfair burden that should reside with the town, the cell carrier and the Connecticut Siting Council has been placed on the church,” according to a press release. “Further, they have come to believe that another alternative cell site would be recommended and chosen. The task force recommended that lease negotiations with the cell carrier company be suspended. The council chair accepted the task force’s recommendation.”

More details will be posted as they become available.
