Darien defeats Notre Dame, 3-1, in semifinal

Top-seeded Notre Dame of Fairfield took a 1-0 lead on fourth-seeded Darien into the second period, but the Blue Wave tied the game and added a pair of third-period goals to defeat coach Steve Hetherman’s Lancers, 3-1, in the Division I hockey semifinals at Ingalls Rink in New Haven on Wednesday.
Darien (20-2-1) will play third-seeded Fairfield Prep (22-3-1) at Ingalls Rink at 2 p.m. Saturday in the title game. The Jesuits defeated second-seeded Notre Dame of West Haven, 4-3 in overtime in their semifinal.
Dan Walsh, assisted by Dan Carloto, gave Notre Dame (18-5-1) the lead at 13:37 of the first period.
Darien’s Tommy Watters scored unassisted at 4:57 of the second to level the score.
Watters, from Jack Massie, made it 2-1 Darien at 10:59 of the third, and Nick Allam upped the margin to 3-1 at 3:30. Sam Knowlton and Rob Juterbock had the assists.
Zach Bouve had 17 saves and Darien’s Mike Conlan stopped 21 shots.
