State Reps. Tony Hwang and Brenda Kupchick honored Chip’s Family Restaurant co-owner Georgie Chatzopoulos at the State Capitol.

State Reps. Tony Hwang and Brenda Kupchick recently honored Chip’s Family Restaurant co-owner Georgie Chatzopoulos at the State Capitol. Chip’s has a location in Fairfield at the corner of Tunxis Hill Cutoff and Black Rock Turnpike.

As co-owner of Chip’s, Georgie Chatzopoulos was recognized on the floor of the state House of Representatives and received an official state citation.

Chip’s in Fairfield opened in 2011 as an expansion of the landmark restaurants known for its pancakes — it was voted “best pancakes” in Connecticut three years in a row.

Chatzopoulos immigrated to the United States from Greece in 1987 and has worked in the restaurant business ever since.

“George and his family are long time small business owners that have successfully expanded in a difficult economy,” Kupchick said. “The Chatzopoulos’ make everyone in Fairfield feel like part of their family.”

“George and his family built the business and in this tough economic time, you can really get the sense of the personal touch, which makes a world of difference to people in this day and age of high technology,” Hwang said. “I think this is a wonderful opportunity for us to remind ourselves of such a community we have, that it would attract such a restaurant like this to want to come in. It bodes well for our community.”

Hwang also applauded Chip’s commitment to the community

“As a fellow immigrant, we both love this country and are grateful for the opportunity to live the American dream,” Hwang said. “Working hard to succeed and maintain a commitment to this community is an unfailing value that we mutually share. Georgie’s focus has always been to give back to the community that has made his restaurants successful.”

Chip’s also has locations in Trumbull and Orange.
