Joseph J. Palmer, a third-term RTM Republican from District 4, has been appointed as the Republican RTM’s budget director for this year’s budget cycle.

In this position, Palmer will facilitate Republican caucus budget meetings, budget discussions, budget analysis and generate support for budget initiatives, while working to mitigate town spending and the impact to the taxpayer. Palmer’s appointment was unanimously approved by the Republican RTM leadership team.

“Rep. Palmer has distinguished himself as a fiscal conservative during his tenure on the RTM,” said Peter Ambrose (R-2), RTM finance chairman. “As the former RTM majority leader, Joe contributed greatly to the budget conversation last year that ultimately drove the tax increase down to 2.3%. I look forward to working with Joe in his new role as the RTM Republican budget director.”

“RTM Republican Budget Director Palmer has a proven track record of effectively managing the Town budget from a RTM perspective,” said Tom Flynn, Board of Finance chairman. “Joe’s strong negotiation skills and deep relationships with other town boards should serve the taxpayer well as the budget season unfolds. I wish Joe much success in this capacity.”

“I want to thank Budget Director Palmer for his ongoing willingness to serve the taxpayer,” said Ed Bateson (R-3), RTM majority leader. “If we are to effectively manage town spending and do the job that voters elected us to do as a legislative body, then we need someone of Joe’s caliber and integrity to lead RTM Republicans from the onset of the budget process.”
