Hourani second, Ebert fourth at New Englands

The Fairfield Warde wrestling team continued an impressive season with a top 10 finish in the New England Championships in Providence, R.I., on March 8.
Coach Jason Shaughnessy’s Mustangs’ 10th place finish was the second highest starte finisher behind runner-up Danbury.
Warde contributors included Tim Kane at 113 pounds, fourth-place finisher Dan Ebert at 126 pounds and two-time runner-up in the heavyweight division Ahmed Hourani, who lost a hard-fought 5-3 battle in the finals to Jesse Web who is ranked No. 9 in the nation.
Hourani had pins in 20 seconds, 46 seconds and 2:38 after a first-round bye to gain the final.
Ebert finished fourth after a tough overtime loss to Trumbull High’s Cross Cannone, who took second, in the semis.
Ebert posted a 15-4 major decision, a 7-5 decision and a 4-2 decision to gain the semifinals, where he he dropped the 4-2 overtime decision to Cannone.
Ebert scored a 2-0 win in the consolation round before losing his third-place bout.
Kane had a tough draw, losing close matches to the fifth- and sixth-place finishers.
After opening with a bye, Kane lost by injury default at the 5:02 mark of his next match.
He had a bye to the third consolation round, where Kane advanced with a 30-second fall.
A 6-2 loss ended his day.
