PAL wrestlers place nine at state championships

The Fairfield PAL wrestling team placed nine wrestlers in the Youth State Wrestling Championships at Hillhouse High School in New Haven on March 2.
At the Novice level (those born in 2002-03), Will Ebert, who also wrestles with the KT Kidz travel team in Rocky Hill, placed second at the 80-pound weight class.
Cole Shaughnessy placed fourth in the 75-pound weight class.
Tristen Breheny placed fourth in the 120-pound weight class.
Griffin Gallati placed fifth in the 112-pound weight class.
John Summers placed sixth in the 95-pound weight class.
At the Middle School level (those born in 1999-2001), Alex Steele won the state title in the 105-pound weight class, winning in the finals 3-1 in overtime.
Clay Zachery placed second in the 144-pound weight class, losing 2-1 in the finals.
Izaake Zuckerman finished strongly, placing third in the 112-pound weight class.
Kris Gjinaj came in sixth place at 120-pounds in one of the toughest weight classes in the tournament.
Steele, Zachery, Ebert, Zuckerman, Shaughnessy, Breheny and Gallati all qualified for the New England Youth Wrestling Championships in North Andover (Mass) on March 16.
