Lexi Kimball leads GFA Dragons

The Greens Farms Academy girls basketball team finished off its regular season FAA play this week by going 1-1 against Masters and then Hopkins.
To start the week, the Dragons faced off against Masters, losing a tough, hard-fought game 37-36.
After having a nine-point lead with 6:30 minutes to go in the game, Masters took advantage of free-throw opportunities to take the one-point win.
Junior captain Lisa Johnson played a tremendous game on both ends of the floor, matching up with the opponent’s best player, limiting her for much of the game. Johnson also scored 12 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
Freshman Lexi Kimball was the Dragons’ high scorer with 14 points, while also grabbing six rebounds and coming away with four steals.
Junior captain Claire Comey did a great job on the rebounding end, pulling down 11 and also scoring four.
Junior Daly Naughton and sophomore Erin Reilly combined for six points and six rebounds.
After playing their hearts out against Masters and just falling short, the Dragons were determined to win entering their final regular season game, taking down Hopkins with a final tally of 53-39.
After what proved to be a very slow start for GFA and a 0-8 deficit, the Dragons then went on to apply pressure and forced Hopkins in to a running game, going on a 10-0 run.
Entering the second half, GFA had only a two-point lead; however, the next 16 minutes proved to be a different story.
Kimball came out on fire, scoring four 3-pointers in the second half alone, while Reilly put in one of her own, as well as another nice bucket in the second half.
Kimball and Reilly ran the floor for the remaining time, receiving great passes from Johnson and Comey.
Kimball finished the game with a career-high 37 points, while Reilly finished with nine points. Johnson and Comey combined for 13 rebounds and five steals.
This left GFA at 10-10 entered its first-round playoff game the following day against Convent of the Sacred Heart, where the Dragons fell 45-32.
Kimball finished the game with a game-high 25 points and eight steals.
