Christian Homa third at states in hoop shoot

Local hoop champ Christian Homa, shooting in the 12-13 age group of the Elks’ National Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest, garnered a third-place finish in the event’s state finals.
The shootoff was held at New Britain High on Saturday, where local champions from around the state convened to select state winners who will move on to the New England championship in March.
Homa was bested by Zach Dunnack of Willimantic, who delighted the crowd with a sparkling perfect 25 of 25 successful free throws. Bristols’ Corey Picard took second, one shot better than Homa.
Homa had won local and district contests, which earned him a shot at the state title. It was his second attempt to seek the top spot, which he will contest next year, his last year of eligiblity in the 8-13 age event.
