The Fairfield Warde cheerleaders were Grand Champions at the 17th annual FCIAC Cheerleading Championship on Saturday, Feb. 1. Trumbull came in second and Greenwich was third. Stamford won the co-ed division.
“As coaches, Rachel (Zajac) and I were so proud of the girls after their performance, even before the winners were announced,” coach Nicole Gomes said. “Their commitment, passion, and determination truly paid off in the routine they performed.
“Our three captains (Madison Beerbower, Tali Cohen, and Mackenzie Tarczali) were on the team for the four years of their high school career. Warde won FCIACs when they were freshmen in 2011, so they began as champions and are now leaving as champions.
“Despite the setbacks the team faced, they supported each other like family and this victory was well earned. The feelings of excitement at that moment are indescribable.”
