Thursday, Jan. 23, 9:42 p.m.: “Power has been restored to Metro-North signals, and trains are returning to service with delays,” the MTA just tweeted.

Other tweets from riders said trains were again beginning to move after a computer crashed stopped the entire rail system.

Thursday, Jan. 23, 9:02 p.m.: MTA’s Meredith Daniels told The Darien Times that Metro-North is trying to “stop at stations if possible or before reaching an interlocking” but otherwise trains have to stay in place currently for safety.

“It’s not a train power issue. There is heat and light on the train,” she said, “but we lost power to the computer system.”

Passengers currently waiting to board Metro-North “are probably going to have to try something else” she said.

Thursday, Jan. 23, 8:50 p.m.: All trains on Metro-North — the New Haven, Harlem and Hudson lines — are stopped around 8:40 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, due to “signal issues.”

A representative from Metro-North said service was currently halted due to computer glitches. In a tweet, Metro-North says “appropriate personnel are responding” and will provide more information as it becomes available.

“Metro North computer system has crashed. Entire system is shut down, including New Haven, Harlem and Westchester lines,” state Rep. Kim Fawcett tweeted.

According to Twitter users, the railroad is advising people to make alternate plans to reach destinations.

“Enough is enough with Metro North!” state Rep. Brenda Kupchick tweeted in reply to a tweet from Fairfield Police advising residents of Thursday’s situation.
