Jesuits defeat Academics in meeting of top teams

Top-ranked Fairfield Prep defeated second-ranked Hillhouse of New Haven, 72-62, in a Southern Connecticut Conference basketball showdown at Alumni Hall on Jan. 4.
Coach Leo Redgate’s Jesuits improved to 6-0, while coach Renard Sutton’s Academics fell to 3-1.
Prep took a 20-17 lead into the second quarter, but Hillhouse leveled the score at 33 come halftime.
The Jesuits used a 16-8 run in the third quarter to take charge, and played the Acs even in the final period.
Tommy Nolan scored 20 points, including a pair of 3-pointers to lead Prep.
Ryan Murphy scored 19 points, with two treys, and Paschal Chukwu scored 15 points.
Keith Pettway was 7-of-9 from the foul line to finish with nine points. Prep was 22-for-40 from the stripe to 15-for-22 for Hillhouse.
