Fairfield welcomes new chief building official

First Selectman Michael Tetreau congratulates Tom Conley on becoming the new chief building official in the town’s building department.

Thomas Conley will serve as Fairfield’s new chief building official, effective Jan. 2. Conley replaces James Gilleran, who had served the town since 1987.

A 59-year Fairfield resident, Conley is a Connecticut licensed electrical inspector and building official. He is a member of the IBEW Local 488 Electrical Union and international Association of Electrical Inspectors and holds an E-1 license as an unlimited electrical contractor.

Before assuming the role of chief building official, Conley had been serving as building inspector for the town since 1997.

Conley is a former member of the Sullivan-McKinney Elder Housing’s executive board. He also previously served on the town’s Representative Town Meeting (RTM) in Districts 10 and 3.

A graduate of Roger Ludlowe High School, Conley has been married to Linda for 34 years and has three children.

“The town of Fairfield’s building department is continuing the tradition of safeguarding the public health, safety and general welfare through education and code enforcement,” Conley said.

“Tom brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to this key role, which will help the building department continue to provide quality service to our community,” First Selectman Michael Tetreau said. “I also want to thank Jim Gilleran for all of his dedicated years of service to our town and wish him all the best in his retirement.”
