Carolyn Durgy, president of the Board of Directors of Sullivan McKinney Elder Housing, accepted a check in the amount of $150,000 from Santa Energy Corp. to fund improvements to Sullivan McKinney Elder Housing Apartments.

The funding is provided by the Housing Tax Credit Contribution (HTCC) Program offered by the Connecticut Department of Revenue Service and administered by the Connecticut Housing Finance Authority. Tax credits are awarded exclusively to nonprofit housing providers through a competitive application process and then transferred to corporations in exchange for contributions made to housing programs, which benefit low and moderate income individuals and families.

The contribution from Santa Energy supplements a HUD Green Retrofit Grant, a HUD mortgage refinancing and Community Development Block Grants through the town of Fairfield, which were used in three-phases of construction since 2010. It provides for a comprehensive energy efficiency upgrade to HVAC systems, renovation and modernization of the facility’s building envelope and apartments, along with community room finishes.

Santa Energy’s contribution will be used as a source of funds in the fourth phase of construction, which is anticipated to begin this spring, including expansion of the existing parking lot, exterior drainage, apartment cabinets and countertops. Renovations are anticipated to be completed by late 2014.
