Bender, Shaughnessy reach milestones

Fairfield Warde posted four wins to improve to 5-0 on the season on Dec. 28. The Mustangs are ranked No. 4 in the state.
Warde defeated Shelton 55-12, Bridgeport Central 75-6, Harding 72-3 and Wilton 63-9.
Jack Price (106 pounds), Tim Kane (113), Dan Ebert (126), Aaron Beinstein (138), Dylan Bender (145), Colin Ventura (160), Mike Sheets (170) and Ahmed Hourani (285) all went 4-0 on the day.
Bender captured his 100th career win and coach Jason Shaughnessy earned his 300th career win.
Shaughnessy’s career record is 302-77. He has coached three state champion teams (Class L 2006-09-10) and one FCIAC champion (2010). Shaughnessy has been the head coach for FHS and Warde since 1997. Warde has been the FCIAC East champions for the past eight years.
Warde will host the Warde Invitational Wrestling Tournament on. Jan. 4.
Nearly 200 wrestlers from 16 teams in Connecticut and New York will kick off the New Year with a wrestling extravaganza.
The tournament begins at 9:30 a.m. and matches will continue throughout the day until champions in more than a dozen weight classes are crowned at approximately 5 p.m.
Tickets are available at the door: $3 for adults, children under 12 years of age free.
