Fairfield Prep's state football final delayed again

Game now scheduled for Thursday in West Haven; Friday is last chance to play

The CIAC Class LL football championship game between Fairfield Prep and Southington has been postponed yet again, and is now scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, at Ken Strong Stadium on the campus of West Haven High School.

“There is still too much ice at WH to safely play,” according to a tweet from CIAC Football.

With snow in the forecast for Tuesday, the CIAC has moved to game out to Thursday.

The Class LL final was originally scheduled for 6:05 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at 6:05 p.m. at Arute Field on the campus of Central Connecticut State University in New Britain. When Saturday’s storm was on the horizon, the Prep-Southington game was moved up to 1:35 p.m. Saturday, with the Class L final between Darien and New Canaan moved to 11 a.m. at Boyle Stadium in Stamford.

As snow began to fall Saturday, Prep’s return to the state championship game was moved to Sunday, Dec. 15, at Ken Strong Stadium. Icing left over from Saturday’s storm led to the CIAC announcing the game would be held today, Monday, at 6 p.m., before announcing the latest postponement.

“[The] latest possiblity to play is Friday,” the CIAC tweeted. “If conditions to not allow it to be played by then co-champions will be declared.”
