Government, citizens need to work together to help U.S.

To the Editor:

We live in an extremely competitive world. We no longer have the luxury or moral right to bicker and fight like children among ourselves. Our nation has been involved in an economic war for over 30 years. Unemployment is rising and the deficit annually soars into unimaginable trillions.

We witnessed our government temporarily closing down. It should be taking the lead in a plan to save our economy by working together in this economic war as we have managed to do in so many decades of military wars.

As we stand by and watch, this economic victory is being won by China and Japan. We watch our  deficit grow with the loss of our industry. We see the loss of jobs, loss of profits to pay workers, loss of profits to maintain our government.

Economic victory will begin when  our government leads us to rebuild a profitable consumer industry. We cannot exist without steady jobs, fair living income. Our government cannot exist on deficits and handouts. Abraham Lincoln warned, “A house divided against itself cannot stand.”

The Connecticut Post, Washington Post, Fox television and other powerful and influential media are continually demeaning and insulting President Obama and his Health Care Act with cartoons, editorials and news. Freedom of the press allows our media the legal right to destroy our nation more effectively than its worst enemies. Don’t they realize the damage they are doing?

I am a 90-year-old World War II veteran. My country has been good to me and my family. Let’s all work to improve it. Let’s not destroy it.
