Art/Place, celebrating its 30th anniversary, recently moved into new gallery space at 70 Sanford Street, sharing a building with the Fairfield Theatre Company.

In celebration, members are presenting Another Opening, Another Show, their inaugural exhibition in the new gallery, Sept. 6 through Oct. 30. A public reception will be held Sept. 30 from 3 to 6 p.m. The gallery is open Thursday through Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.

The anniversary is also being celebrated with a second Art/Place exhibition at the Pequot Library’s Perkin Gallery in Southport, where a public reception is planned for Saturday, Sept. 8, from 3 to 5 p.m. The exhibition is on view through Oct. 4.

John Reid, producing artistic director of the Fairfield Theatre Company, is enthusiastic about the synergy between the artists and FTC, noting that the Art /Place Gallery will be open during performances.

“We are very pleased to be able to share our space with Art/Place and are truly excited to see the arts flourishing right here in downtown Fairfield,” Reid said.

With a new gallery in a prime location near restaurants in the heart of Fairfield, one of the oldest non-profit artist cooperative associations in Connecticut is seeking applications from prospective members. Artists working in all media may submit work for jurying by Monday, Oct. 22. Applications are available from Sandra Meagher at [email protected] Art/Place members include painters, printmakers, sculptors, photographers and mixed media artists.

New members will exhibit in the Art/Place Annual Holiday Show in November and December.

“This is an exciting new chapter in the 30-year life span of Art/Place,” said Florence Zolan of Bridgeport, a founding member of Art Place and longtime Fairfield resident.

“We welcome the opportunity for additional exposure through the Fairfield Theatre Company audiences, and are delighted with our new location in the heart of town,” Diane Pollack of Fairfield, who co-chairs Art/Place with Zolan.

Art/Place has also enjoyed a long relationship with the Watermark Gallery at the Watermark, a senior citizen residence at 3030 Park Street in Bridgeport on the Fairfield border, which hosts ongoing exhibitions.

In addition to Pollack and Zolan, members include Phyllis Clamage of Stratford, Dave Pressler of Shelton, Carol Cole and Elisa Khachian of Fairfield, Toby Michael of Westport, Barbara Bernstein and Susanne Keany of Weston, Cate Leach of Darien, Sandra Meagher of Rowayton, Mary Louise Long of Stamford and Martha Reinken of Greenwich.
