Troy Fine Art launches mixed media exhibit

Artist Carol Brookes will showcase her artwork during the ‘Pulse’ exhibit at Troy Fine Art.

Troy Fine Art Services presents “Pulse,” a mixed media with sculpture exhibit by artist Carol Brookes through the end of January. An opening reception will be held Saturday, Dec. 7, from 6 to 8 p.m.

“This holiday exhibition encourages the reflection one might contemplate as another New Year ushers in,” owner Troy Amuso said.

“Pulse” examines the hemisphere as a structure, the ordinary forms seen every day in their many incarnations, such as an egg, a pod, an eye, the earth, planets and domes. The various concepts these forms evoke are explored in the series, including thoughts and insights into life, formation and the mystical and mysterious.

Nails, washers, rope, tubing, wire, rubber mats, dowels, leather buckles, industrial honeycomb insulation and tacks are just some of the materials that Brookes incorporates into her wall and box-like structures.

“I consider the entire world my art supply store,” Brookes said. “I see the world as layers of structure and surface, one upon the other — a concept that drives my work.”

Brookes’ artwork has been featured in galleries, universities and cultural centers throughout the United States, most recently at Eastern Connecticut State University. Other venues include the McLarry Modern Gallery, Santa Fe, New Mexico; Illinois Central College, East Peoria; Maryland Federation of Art, Annapolis; B.J. Spoke Gallery, Huntington, N.Y.; University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls; Women’s Center, Los Angeles; and Miami Metropolitan Museum and Art Center.
