Southport Athletic Club makes donation to breast care center

Kimberly Fox and Tim Taylor of the Southport Athletic Club present a check to Dr. Donna Twist, executive director of the Norma F. Pfriem Breast Care Center.

More than 100 members of the Southport Athletic Club donated more than $600 to the Norma F. Pfriem Breast Care Center in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Club. The money will be used for the center’ services to women in need.

The breast care center has been helping women in the community fight breast cancer for more than a decade. Patients come from Fairfield, Bridgeport and the surrounding communities.

“We are so grateful to the Southport Athletic Club,” said Dr. Donna Twist, executive director of the Norma F. Pfriem Breast Care Center. “Their generosity will help women get the services they need for the early detection and treatment of breast cancer.”

The Southport Athletic Club holds various charity events throughout the year. One of its long-term members was treated at the breast care center.  Donors were invited to pin a ribbon on the club’s “Wall of Pink” with a dedication to a loved one.

“Our members have been very generous,” said Kimberly Fox, group fitness manager, who helped organize the effort.

“Everyone has been affected by breast cancer, whether through friends or family,” said Lisa Waite, manager of marketing and support services at the Southport Athletic Club. “Many of our members are survivors.  Members were very receptive to the fund-raiser.”
