League thanks ‘Sun’ for help with Voters Guide

To the Editor:

The election season has come and gone, but the League of Women Voters of Fairfield has one more thing to say: “Thank you, Fairfield Sun.”

We recognize that The Sun put its readers first by sacrificing advertising revenues and taking on printing expense to publish the League of Women Voters annual Voters Guide, and then topped that by providing the league with additional copies to distribute across Fairfield.

In doing so, the paper put Fairfield citizens before its bottom line, making available to them valuable information on candidates and their positions.

The league salutes the Fairfield Sun for its public service to our town and its citizens.

However, the league also must apologize to the Sun, Fairfield citizens and town candidates for failing to include information provided for the print edition of the Voters Guide.

Both James Walsh, a candidate for a Board of Finance vacancy, and Mark Corcoran, a candidate for Town Plan and Zoning Commission alternate, provided responses to the league. These responses were not included due to a league oversight, which we sincerely regret. We have put into place reforms in our process for compiling the Voters Guide for the future to avoid such errors in the future.
