Fairfield Democrats to honor Doug Jones

On Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, Fairfield Democrats will honor one of their own, Doug Jones, with the 2012 John L. Sullivan Public Service Award.

The Sullivan Award was established in honor of the dedication and service of John Sullivan to the Town of Fairfield throughout his lifetime. This award is given annually to a Democrat who has served the party and community “with distinction encompassing community service and sustained political activity and leadership.” Nominations are made by the membership of the Democratic Town Committee and are chosen by a majority vote of the party leadership, comprised of the current officers and district leaders of the Democratic Town Committee.

Jones has been a Fairfield resident since 1985. Since joining the Fairfield DTC in 1999, he has been an outspoken member of the RTM (2001-07), serving as its majority leader from 2005 to 2007. He has also served as a member of the Greater Bridgeport Regional Planning Agency (2007-09), the Fairfield Conservation Commission (2009-11), and currently serves on the Fairfield Warde Roof Building Committee.

Jones has worked with Habitat for Humanity and Westbridge Coalition, an affiliate of Rebuilding Together. Doug is a former committee chairman of Cub Scout Pack 88 at Jennings School.

A graduate of Brown University, Jones also completed additional study at Trinity College, Parsons School of Design, and the New School for Social Research. He has worked in the book and magazine publishing industry for more than 35 years, and is a founding partner in a leading publisher’s consulting firm.

He and his wife, Meg, and has two sons, Andy (Fairfield Warde ’10, majoring in music at SUNY Purchase), and Tim (sophomore at Fairfield Warde).

The event will take place at the Fairfield Museum and History Center, 370 Beach Road, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. A wine and cheese reception will follow.
