Red Cross seeks nominations for heroes recognition

The Red Cross wants to help the public honor and celebrate individuals who have performed an extraordinary act of courage to save someone’s life or volunteer for a special cause at its Community Heroes Breakfast Celebrations.

Each year, the Red Cross in Connecticut accepts nominations from the public for recognition of people who go above and beyond in service to others, exemplifying the spirit of the Red Cross mission. These heroes are honored in recognition of their good works.

The Red Cross touches lives in our state every day through programs and services such as Disaster Relief, Service to the Armed Forces and Preparedness and Health & Safety Training.

This year’s Heroes celebration will be held at the Trumbull Marriott on Friday, May 16, 2014.

Nominate a community hero for deeds that occurred in the last 15 months. Nominations must be received by Dec. 31 to be considered for the event. The nominee must live or work in, or the event must occur in, Connecticut. Nominations may be made for both living and posthumous heroes.

“Every day, Red Cross volunteers are involved with helping disaster victims or people who risk their lives for others and with people who learn through our health and safety training how to save lives,” said Paul Shipman, American Red Cross spokesman. “Many of these people are unsung heroes. Community Heroes of Connecticut gives us an opportunity to honor our neighbors who do extraordinary things every day.”
