Aquarion executive named CFO of the Year

Aquarion Water Co. has announced that Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Donald J. Morrissey has been named “Chief Financial Officer of the Year” at the second annual CFO of Year Awards, sponsored by Westfair Communications, TD Bank and McGladrey.

Morrissey was selected from amongst a group of 14 finalists representing small, medium and large companies in Fairfield County.

An accomplished finance executive and certified public accountant, Morrissey joined Aquarion in 1995. During his time with the company, he has served in a number of roles, including controller, vice president of finance and CFO and was promoted to executive vice president in 2012.  Morrissey oversees all aspects of Aquarion’s financial management, strategic and financial planning and risk management.

“For nearly 20 years, Aquarion and its customers have been the beneficiaries of Don’s outstanding talents,” said Charles V. Firlotte, Aquarion president and chief executive officer. “His expertise in financial strategy and business development have helped grow and strengthen the company. We congratulate him on being named CFO of the Year.”

In addition to his financial acumen, Morrissey is well-known in industry and professional circles as an advocate for effective water conservation policies.

Morrissey received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Connecticut and his MBA in finance/international business from New York University’s Stern School of Business.

He served as chairman of the Finance Committee of the National Association of Water Companies from 2003 to 2008, and was on its Board of Directors from 2007 to 2011.

Morrissey lives in Newtown with his wife, Betsy, and four children.
