Encouraging residents to vote on Nov. 5

To the Editor:

I am writing to encourage all Fairfield residents to come out and vote on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

With no first selectman race this year, voter turnout is expected to be lower than normal. However, the stakes involved in this election could not be higher.

In 2013, the Democrats proposed and presented a plan to increase your taxes 6.4%. Board of Finance and RTM Republicans sent a clear message to the Democrats that their plan was completely unacceptable. Republicans were able to reduce that increase by over 4% through pressure on the Democratic leadership and bipartisan negotiations.

We must maintain a system of checks and balances. We must continue to call for spending controls and budget reform. We must control long-term employment costs. We must continue to work to make Fairfield more affordable for all residents and keep our seniors in their homes.

The Republican slate of candidates this year will continue to fight against excessive tax increases, expand senior tax relief and foster a strong working relationship across party lines.

If you are tired of 14 years of tax increases and want a voice for budget reform, vote for the Republican slate of candidates on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
