Soccer Shoot for boys and girls on Sunday

The Fairfield Elks will conduct the annual Soccer Shoot for boys and girls aged up to 13 at the Fairfield Elks Lodge, 452 Brookside Drive, on Sunday, Sept. 29, at 1 p.m.
Boys and girls will compete separately to decide winners who will advance to the next level of competition, the district finals.
Contestants will kick at diminishing width goals from 48 inches down to 17 inches, with the score for each increasing
There will be a boy and girl winner in each of the four age divisions: under 8, under 10, under 12 and under 14. Anyone who has reached the age of 14 is ineligible to compete.
Each contestant will kick three times at each of the five goals for score. The ball must enter entirely through the goal for a good score.
The under-8 group will shoot from a distance of 15 feet and the upper-age groups from 18 feet from the goal.
Winners will then advance to the district contest, which will be held at the Bridgeport Elks Lodge the following Saturday.
Winners there advance to state finals and finally to the New England championships.
Fairfield has had two overall champions in the past five years, Nicole Vezina and Sam Nassar. The Elks fund the entire contest for all, including any travel.
The Fairfield contest is open to residents of Fairfield, Redding, Easton, Weston and Westport.
