Young musicians play in chamber festival

Six young Fairfield residents were among 60 students from the Fairfield County area who recently a challenging two-week session at Chamber Music Central’s Summer Festival at the Unquowa School from July 30 to Aug. 20.

The Fairfield group included Jess Bollman, Oliver Maupin, David Nam, Katie Reis, Sage Williamson and Elizabeth Winter.

Early in the spring, the students were selected through an audition process and then placed with peers at similar performance levels for this musical experience, now in its 15th year. Working in duos, trios and quartets, the students sharpened their skills in coaching sessions, rehearsals, and theory and master classes under the tutelage of professional musicians.

At a gala concert performance at the end of the program, the young musicians showcased their achievements for family, friends and the public at Southport Trinity Church.

Chamber Music Central, based in Westport, is dedicated to providing opportunities for young musicians to learn and perform great works of chamber music. Begun in 1997 as a two-week summer music camp, CMC now operates as a year-round program offering sessions in the summer, as well as fall and spring semesters.
