Moms in Training comes to Fairfield

Moms In Training is a new program supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). This group was formed with a goal to bring Connecticut moms together, get in shape and most importantly raise money in the fight against cancer.

The program was founded in New York City in 2012, where 55 moms took part and raised more than $70,000.

Moms In Training is a flexible nine-week work-out program held at Jennings Beach on Saturdays at 9 a.m. Training sessions are lead by experienced coaches (also local moms) who will lead a work-out of running, walking and cross-training. These work-outs are designed to accommodate all ability levels and moms will receive a training calendar to follow along during the week.

As long as babies can stay in their stroller they are welcome to attend work-out sessions, which will be structured to include the stroller.

The program will culminate on Nov. 17, with the option to run or walk the Wallingford Turkey Trot five-mile race. Event day participation is optional for team members, but it gives everyone a goal to work towards.

The goal is to raise money for LLS, so moms are asked to fund-raise at least $500. There is a $50 registration fee to join, which is credited towards the fund-raising goal. Upon registering, moms receive their own fund-raising website in addition to ample fund-raising support along the way.

Last year, the average mom raised $1,300. If the team members know someone personally affected by cancer, they will have the opportunity to train in honor of them.

The program kicks off Sept. 14. Space is limited. For more information or to register, contact Nicole Carrea, campaign manager, at 203-665-1418 or [email protected] or visit teamintraining.org/ct/moms.
