Ludlowe went on a 12-2 run to open the second half on its way to a 45-32 victory over Shelton 1 in week six action in the Stratford Girls Summer Basketball League at the Birdseye Rec Complex on Aug. 8.
Behind sharpshooting from beyond the three-point line, Shelton stayed close in the first half before Fairfield opened up its attack to stretch its 20-16 lead at the break.
Caroline Pangallo began the rally with a foul-line jumper off a pass from Anna Lee Riccio.
After a Shelton turnover, Fairfield took its time running its offense around the Shelton zone, and the third time was the charm, as Regan Steed buried a trey with Pangallo assisting.
Steed had a steal that led to a made free throw, before Julia Pangallo more than made up for a Shelton hoop with a 3-pointer to extend the lead to 32-22 with eight minutes remaining in the 20-minute second half.
Charlotte Blatt scored on a breakaway and Meghan Curran knocked down a 3-pointer to start the game.
Shelton went in front 9-7, but Ludlowe kept looking over the top of Shelton’s interior defense for buckets from inside the lane, and went on a 10-0 run over a seven-minute period.
Patricia Arvoy scored four points to begin the uprising, including a three-point play off an assist from Steed.
Julia Pangallo made a 15-footer, Blatt a pair of free throws, and Caroline Yates turned a steal into a transition bucket and a 17-9 advantage.
Shelton drew closer, as it pinballed its attack around Nicole Roberts, who passed out of double teams to locate open players on the perimeter.
But Julia Pangallo’s trey, with Blatt assisting, gave Ludlowe a four-point lead at intermission.
After the 10-2 run, Roberts’ bucket cut the deficit to 32-25 before Kelly Kiramadjian buried consecutive jumpers and Ludlowe’s lead ballooned to 37-24 with four minutes remaining.
Sara Bertola’s kick-out pass led to a Brooke McCone 3-pointer for Shelton and Tanya Adler scored off a rebound.
Caroline Pangallo made four straight free throws, before Julia Fitzpatrick assisted on another trey by McCone to complete the scoring
The victory completed a busy week for Ludlowe, which played four games on both Aug. 2 and 3 in a Team Camp in New Haven, before playing again in the Joe DeSantis League on Aug. 7.
“This team loves basketball and it shows,” coach Jack Curran said. “They are working hard and having fun. Winning makes things even more fun.” night.”
