Bridgeport man arrested for Fairfield burglaries

Robert Ford Jr.

Robert Ford Jr., 38, of Fairfield Avenue, Bridgeport, was taken into custody after he was found in possession of numerous stolen items from motor vehicles in the area of Melville and Villa avenues.

The subsequent investigation revealed Ford entered a motor vehicle that was parked inside of a garage that was attached to a home.

A resident reported a suspicious person in his yard this morning, Aug. 6, at 1:54, and knocked on the window in an attempt to get his attention. Ford ran from the area and was quickly located by Officer Keith Perham walking on Melville Avenue.

Ford was carrying a black back pack and believed that it contained stolen items.  The area where Ford was detained has been a target of recent property crimes where vehicles have been broken into in the overnight hours. Located in the back pack were items that are commonly taken from those private vehicles, including a GPS unit, a cell phone, a large amount of loose change, a wallet and cigarettes.

Ford was questioned about the items and he later admitted to taking them from several vehicles in the Melville area. Officers were able to determine the victim’s identity and learn that the cell phone was taken from a vehicle that was parked in a garage.

Ford was charged with first-degree burglary, two counts of third-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools, larceny by possession, fifth-degree larceny and sixth-degree larceny. He was assigned a $10,000 bond and an Aug. 15 court date.
