Westport takes down Fairfield National in District II

Harry Azadian carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning, powering Westport’s 11-12 Little League All-Stars to a 5-2 victory over Fairfield National at Unity Park in Trumbull on Saturday.

With the victory, Westport captured the District II championship and advances to the Section I tournament set to begin on July 17.

Azadian, who won the tournament MVP award, allowed a one-out single to Stephen Paolini in the bottom of the seventh for the first Nationals’ hit. Daniel Fallacaro then lashed an RBI double to get Fairfield on the scoreboard.

That was the end of the day for Azadian, who struck out nine and walked two. Westport right-hander Chad Murray came on in relief and sandwiched a pair of strikeouts around a run-scoring single by Owen Polley to seal the 5-2 win.

Azadian helped himself by slamming a towering solo home run in the top of the second inning.

Ricky Offenberg drove in three runs for Westport, while Knight chipped in with three hits.

Alexey Linsenmeyer was charged with the hard-luck loss for Fairfield National. The crafty right-hander worked 4 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on five hits.
