Vandals strike Southport, break Wakeman window

Wakeman Boys & Girls Club and a construction site were among the Southport locations damaged by vandals. The incidents were discovered early Tuesday, July 9.

A broken window at Wakeman was reported shortly after 8 a.m.

Windows in a Mack tractor and an excavator at a job site at Westway Road and Pequot Avenue were found smashed shortly before 7 a.m. A helmet, worth $15, was also taken.

A Pequot Avenue resident called police shortly after 7 a.m. to report arriving home at 9 p.m. Monday, July 8, and finding four beer cans and litter near the pool.

Another Pequot Avenue resident report a mailbox vandalized at shortly after 8 a.m. July 9. The resident told police he heard four skateboarders around 9 p.m. Monday, then heard an “unusual noise” and discovered the damage.

A Pequot Avenue resident called police at 10:12 p.m. Monday, July 8, to report that a marble urn that had contained flowers was removed from her doorstep and smashed in the street. The urn was worth $800.

Two smashed mailboxes, one on Pequot Avenue and another on Sasco Hill Road, were reported Tuesday, July 9.

Mailboxes were also smashed outside two Fairfield Woods Road residences sometime before 6:20 a.m. Tuesday, July 9. One was worth $100, the other $200.
