Man threatens lifeguards at Southport beach

A Fairfield man has been arrested and banned from Southport Beach after police said he threatened lifeguards there Tuesday, July 9.

It was his second arrest of the day.

Police responded to the beach around 5:25 p.m. after a lifeguard reported that Joseph P. Gallace, 48, of Cross Highway, got out of the van he had sat in for a half hour, yelled at the lifeguards and threatened the captain, peppering his language with obscenities.

Fairfield police, who arrested Gallace June 17 for disorderly conduct and interfering with an emergency call, took him into custody at the beach, charging him with second-degree breach of peace and second-degree threatening.

Fairfield police said Gallace had been arrested early Tuesday by police in Westport. Details of that arrest were not available.

Bond was $1,000 for court July 18.

Gallace was official warned not to visit Southport Beach.
