Town implements new motor vehicle billing format

Residents who recently received a motor vehicle bill may have noticed a new format because the town of Fairfield has implemented a new and more efficient billing method to achieve cost savings and improve service.

The new billing format, a single bill invoicing method also referred to as club billing, creates simpler billing and greater convenience for taxpayers with multiple vehicles listed on one bill. If a taxpayer has three vehicles in his or her name, all three vehicles will be listed on one bill with information for each vehicle in a listing, but with a total for all vehicles on each installment due.

By using club billing this year, the town reduced the number of its motor vehicle bills that were printed and mailed by 42%. The number of club bills printed and mailed this year was 26,763, versus 46,367, which would have otherwise been mailed, leading to a significant reduction of 19,604 mailings.   The town also improved service by including pre-addressed return envelopes in the mailings this year.

“This new format saves taxpayer dollars by doing more with less in a more efficient manner,” First Selectman Michael Tetreau said. “It is a win-win for the public and for the town.”
